A Mom’s View: Amy Ehrhart – Columbus, GA Newborn Photographer

Monday, February 28th, 2011

I’m so happy to feature Amy on my first Monday “A Mom’s View”… She and her firstborn, Elliot, came to see me in December. He’s 3 months old now and absolutely precious! Amy was kind enough to answer some fun questions that may be helpful for a mom-to-be! I always love reading things like this and hope you enjoy this new feature as much as I do!

What’s the best thing about motherhood?

Getting to see my little guy change and grow every day. One day they sleep all the time and just stare at you…and the next they’re smiling and laughing, kicking their legs and swatting at you!

What’s the hardest thing about motherhood?
The constant worry and decision making. Is he warm enough? Is he too warm? Does his stomach hurt? Should I rock him to sleep or let him cry? Oh it’s endless…and no one can make those decisions for you.

What has come as a total surprise to you? Something you thought… “WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME ______!”
The questioning that (apparently) every mother goes through. Second guessing. We all do it. It’s trial and error. There are no hard and fast answers. All kids are different.

Favorite baby item?
The Boppy. Definitely the most used item. Every feeding for the past 3 months so far.

Most useless baby item?
Those teeny tiny receiving blankets. They aren’t big enough to swaddle the baby in…not even really long enough to throw over them in their crib.

Any tips on sleep- for you or your baby?
Babywise or Secrets of the Baby Whisperer…but modified to suit you and your child’s needs. I’ve only recently read these books with a 3 month old…and from what I’ve heard- starting from day one is ALOT easier than starting late.

Confess! What have you done that you said you’d NEVER do? (because we all do… heheeee)
Rock my baby to sleep…for every nap and bed time. Don’t do this! I’m paying for it now with sleep training my 3 month old!

Words of advice concerning labor, delivery, or hospital stay?
Be flexible in your expectations. If your baby is bottle-fed (like mine is), send it to the nursery at night. You’ll need ALL the rest you can “bank”.

Any tips on preparing for your newborn photo session or other advice concerning a session?
Don’t get frustrated if your child wants to be awake the whole time like mine did =) Holly is VERY patient and will make sure you get plenty of gorgeous pictures!

To wrap it up… my favorite image from Elliot’s session… I can’t look at this without smiling!
