Summertime Beauties – Columbus, GA Newborn Photographer

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

Summer has come and gone… school started for us last week, my 3 were quite happy! We swam 297 times in 2 months and I think they’d had enough- what else is there to do in this southern heat? Here they are on their first day… can you feel the excitement!? Hoping that will last! I was admittedly a little sad to see them off, but have tried to take advantage of the new found time on the 2-3 mornings they’re all in school… reorganizing both business and at home (I think I touched every toy in the house yesterday… they are officially organized but I have done this enough times to know that by Monday everything will be well on the way back to it’s regularly jumbled state- that will probably annoy me a little, but then I’ll hear my dad’s voice in my head singing “You’re gonna miss this, you’re gonna want this back, you’re gonna wish this didn’t go by so fast…” and then I’ll be ok with the mess :)

Here are the latest favorites from sessions with sweet babies newborn up to 6 months… have happily switched around some First Year sessions lately and had the chance to photograph a few 6 month olds which is always fun! Will have to break this up into a few different posts most likely! As always, the most up-to-date photos (these, plus more) can be found on my business Facebook page (click the logo to the left of the screen!).

This is sweet Liza… the above 3 are newborn and the 3 below are from her 3 month session! What a change!!

Almost March? EEEeeek. – Columbus, GA Newborn Photographer

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

Is February 26th too late to make a New Years Resolution? I think mine is to do a better job at regularly posting my sessions here! I almost always keep my business Facebook updated (it’s so fast and simple) but this blog has been abandoned far too much in the last months. The good news is: I’ve been busy! Aside from the 17 photo sessions and 9 mini-sessions (!) since the beginning of the year, my to-do list at home has been full of super fun days, mundane tasks, sicknesses, beach trip, learning to sew, failing to cook, a new bible study, mountains of dirty laundry, dog surgery and so on! I had my first cold in 2.5 years (can’t complain about that… got to spend an entire Saturday in bed… woke up at 10:30am, took 2 naps, went to bed at 8:30pm… I will label that short sickness as a “gift”)… All 3 girls have been sick at some point, each with an ear infection and then some (can’t wait to read into this more, thanks to my pinterest savvy sister in law!). With that I have to say a HUGE thank you to all of those who were kind and flexible with rescheduling in the months of Jan and Feb! Dudley and I are finally getting around to planning our 10th Anniversary trip (8 months later) and I am sooo looking forward to that! I think I would be happy spending 2 nights in Phenix City at this point… just a short escape from the children  routine would be FABULOUS. :) Another huge highlight of Jan/Feb was our firstborn daughter’s 8th birthday. Morgan is responsible for my label as “mom” … and with that a life change… a heart change. I’ve learned so much from her, starting with day 1 and continuing daily. I thought I knew it all (sort-of) until I had her and I now realize I don’t know much at all. That’s parenting! She is a gift from God and I’m so humbled to be her mother. She chose a slumber party this year (again!) which was so fun (and loud). A few photos to share and then will get right to some session favorites! This first photo was taken by Suzanne on Morgan’s 8th birthday.

“Motherhood is a choice you make everyday, to put someone else’s happiness and well-being ahead of your own, to teach the hard lessons, to do the right thing even when you’re not sure what the right thing is…and to forgive yourself, over and over again, for doing everything wrong.” Donna Ball

NAPCP Retreat 2011

The whole group (photo from NAPCP.com)

My sister, Angel, and I (via Blackberry cellphone!)

Last week, one of my dreams came true! My sister and I travelled to Vail, Colorado for the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) Retreat. I recently joined NAPCP and I have wanted to learn from Kelley Ryden and Tracy Raver for a long time. I honestly never thought it would happen (between leaving my 3 kids and finding room in my budget!). Thanks to my supportive and loving family and a nice steady photo schedule, my kids were taken care of and my account allowed for it… and off we went. We enjoyed the most beautiful scenery and weather, delicious food,  and met some really wonderful people. I learned so much that by dinner time, all I wanted to do was be quiet and process my thoughts! The highlight of the trip was 4 hours we got to spend with Kelley and Tracy and a few newborn babies! They taught us so many valuable tricks and techniques that have already helped me tremendously. Here are two shots they set up and allowed us to photograph. This workshop made such a difference in the way I will work and approach my sessions. So much FUN!!!

Have you heard of Focus on the Family? I love this organization. Families are in crisis… no one is exempt from the many things that could tear a family apart. Yesterday, my 7 year old, Morgan came in my room sometime during the 6 o’clock hour, sat on my bed, and said “you and Daddy will never get a divorce, right?”  It’s sad to me that she even has to know that word, but it’s a big reality of our world. Staying strong as a family/couple takes effort- it doesn’t happen without hard work. Focus on the Family has a wealth of info for the stay-at-home mom, the working mom, the single mom, the frustrated mom/wife, the disorganized mom, the imperfect mom/wife (that’s me… and you) … (you can insert “dad” in there too!). This organization is a major behind the scenes part of my business… I listen to their podcasts when I’m editing. I’ve called their licensed family counsellors (for free!) on several occasions with questions. I’ve learned and grown stronger in countless aspects of marriage and parenting. Let’s face it, those can be the 2 most trying and rewarding parts of life. Anyway, just wanted to share … check out their site focusonthefamily.com !

Happy 2011!

Monday, January 3rd, 2011

Happy New Year! I’ve enjoyed a few weeks of rest and some sweet times with my family- and I hope you have as well. We had a relaxed and fun Christmas in Pensacola and came back just in time for the snow on Christmas night- what a gift! My mind has been in organizing mode for the last week and I’m now shifting over to “2 more days of no-school-fun-days” mode for the sake of my 2 big girls! I’m not sure what’s in store, as we’ve already done a dollar store trip (their favorite) and a movie (Tangled- loved it!) but I’m sure we’ll think of something. Possibly mini-golf- which will be a new adventure for us.

I will be back to business mode later this week, as I’m joining 2 other photographers in sharing a beautiful studio in downtown Columbus! This is such exciting news and an answer to prayer. Studio sessions lend to much more variety (as we have a TON of props) and flexibility with lighting, etc. I’ve already shot a few sessions there, and I must say- they are definitely in my all-time top 5 favorite sessions! I will be shooting and editing on Fridays, which makes life much more predictable and peaceful in the midst of 3 busy little girls and my on-the-go husband. Orders can be picked up at the studio at your convenience as well… which simplifies yet another aspect of your newborn’s photo experience! All-in-all, I am confident that this is a wonderful move for me- one that will bring more balance and stability to our home life and to Holly Tye Photography!

Can’t post without a photo, of course… My 3 little ladies at Callaway in November. We are a musical family for sure, and I just had to get something with these leaves!

Lilygiggle Recycled Clothes and Baby Shoes

{ Link to Lilygiggle’s shop }

Stop whatever you’re doing and check this out! I was thrilled to join forces with a talented, creative, and resourceful business owner. Lilygiggle is an etsy seller- with some SUPER cute stuff… “I really enjoy the challenge of taking something that will not be worn anymore and giving it a second chance. If an item is worn-out then it gets recycled into rags but if it is simply a matter of great fabric outliving it’s style then I love breathing new life into it. The result is a fresh piece of clothing that has been recycled without looking like it has.”

You’ll be seeing more of her beautiful goods on my photoblog. Here is the most amazingly sweet, cuddly, gorgeous baby in the world a small sample of what Lilygiggle has to offer… and who better to model such beauty? …
